Nez Muhleman, 1982 WTGA President |
![]() The Muhlemans had a great passion for golf and joined the Atlanta Country Club. This was where ‘Nez started to get involved with junior golf. “I enjoyed the game so much I wanted to give back to it”, she said. In the 70’s the Muhlemans moved to Houston, TX and have been there ever since. She served on the U.S. Girls’ Junior Committee for 31 years and in 1986 she formed a travel fund to ensure that junior girls would get a chance to play in the U.S. Junior Girls’ Championship. Her work has assisted over 300 girls get to the championship, and many of them have received college scholarships because of this opportunity. ‘Nez has deeply enjoyed working with these girls and she stays in touch with the majority of them. She refers to all of them as “her girls”. In 2011, Muhleman received the prestigious Joe Dey Award, an award presented by the USGA for “meritorious service to the game as a volunteer”. ‘Nez also served on the WTGA board for 6 years and was President in 1982. The WTGA recognized her significant contribution to the association by creating two college scholarship funds, one named for her and the other for long-time friend and fellow WTGA Past President Doris Kallina. Since its founding, the scholarship program has awarded 14 college students funds and commitments totaling more than $70,000. For someone who has committed much of her life expanding opportunities for young women, there is nothing more fitting to bear her name.
