Qualifying Information

Format:  All players who are not exempt under the categories listed below must participate in an 18 hole sectional qualifier.  Qualifying Round starting times, pairings and additional information, including practice rounds, will be posted under Qualifying Sites & Results by Wednesday, April 5th.

What’s Included:  The qualifying entry fee includes a qualifying round green fee and discounted practice round green fee at the qualifying site.  Please see Qualifying Sites & Results for additional information on specific qualifying sites.

Transportation/Caddies:   Players may walk or ride at their discretion during qualifying rounds. During qualifying rounds, caddies are not guaranteed a cart seat; carts are limited to two players per cart and a maximum of two carts per group.  Players and their caddies must walk at all times during the practice round and all stipulated rounds of the Texas Amateur Championship.

Score Posting:  At the conclusion of each qualifier, each player’s score will be automatically posted as a "T” or tournament score to the GHIN handicap system.  Please do not enter your own scores from the competitive rounds, as this will result in a double post.

Transferring Qualifying Site: Changing a qualifying site is permissible, but only before the tournament entry deadline on Wednesday, March 29th. Otherwise, if a player is entered in a Texas Amateur qualifier and the entry deadline has passed and circumstances arise that would cause him to miss his assigned qualifier, he may follow the "Walk-Up Procedure”, outlined in the Texas Golf Association Policies and Procedures, at another qualifier. Any waitlisted player at a qualifying site will be drawn by lot to replace players in the field that fail to show up at his designated starting time and ahead of those players looking to follow the “Walk-Up Procedure”.

Walk-Up Procedure for Qualifying Rounds:  If a player is entered in a Texas Amateur qualifier and the entry deadline has passed and circumstances arise that would cause him to miss his assigned qualifier, he may follow the "Walk-Up Procedure”, outlined in the Texas Golf Association Policies and Procedures, at another qualifier. Any wait listed player at a qualifying site will be drawn by lot to replace players in the field that fail to show up at their designated starting time and ahead of those players looking to follow the “Walk-Up Procedure”.

To be a part of the Walk-Up Procedure you must be either registered at another qualifying site or a wait listed player. Players wishing to Walk-Up are required to check in with the TGA official at the 1st tee 30 minutes prior to the start of the qualifying round. Players attempting to transfer qualifying sites or wait listed players who are late to check in will be placed at the bottom of the Walk-Up list. Once play begins, if a player who is in the starting field fails to show up at the tee at the designated time, an alternate or wait listed player will be called. If the player does not show within five minutes, the alternate or wait listed player’s ball will be in play.

Any wait listed player at a qualifying site will be drawn by lot to replace players in the field that fail to show up at his designated starting time.  Wait listed players at a specific site will take priority over players following the Walk-Up Procedure who were originally registered at another site.

Wait List: Entries received after the field limit has been reached will be placed on a "wait list” for that event. Applicants will be ranked on the wait list in the order their application was received by the TGA, unless otherwise specified in tournament eligibility. Any spots in the field that become available will then be filled in accordance with the ranked wait list. The TGA will use the wait list up until 6:00 PM of the night prior to the qualifying round. After that time, any player on the wait list may exercise their right to walk-up on site. Please see "Walk-Up Procedure” for further details above.   Note: Wait list rankings only apply to Texas Amateur qualifiers when a qualifying site reaches capacity; players must register before the entry deadline to be considered as a wait listed player for that site.

Qualifying Places:  The number of qualifying spots allocated to each site will be determined by the TGA after the entry deadline (Wednesday, March 29th) has closed and all eligible entries are confirmed. This number of spots available is based on the field size at each site. Each qualifying site will have a predetermined field limit and may fill up. Each qualifying site must have at least 6 players registered prior to the entry deadline (Wednesday, March 29th) or it will be cancelled. If the requested qualifying site is full or cancelled, applicants will be reassigned by the TGA to the nearest qualifying site available. If reassignment is unacceptable, a full refund will be granted.

Ties: The last qualifying position or an alternate position shall be decided by a sudden death hole-by-hole playoff immediately after the last score has been approved and posted by a TGA Official in Charge.  It is the responsibility of each player to be present for any playoff(s) that may occur, as directed by the TGA Official in Charge.
