Team Texas Finished T-8th at 2016 USGA Men’s State
Team Texas finished tied for eighth in the 2016 USGA Men’s State Team Championship, which was played Sept. 28-30 at the Country Club of Birmingham in Birmingham, Ala.
Scott Abbott and Joshua Irving of Dallas and Zach Atkinson of Colleyville attempted to win Texas its fifth USGA Men’s State Team title since the event began 21 years ago. Current TGA President Jim Brown of Dallas served as captain of Team Texas. For the full story, click here.

General Eligibility Requirements

Open to male amateur golfers who:

  1. Meet all current TGA eligibility requirements.

  2. Participate in a starting field in a minimum of one (1) TGA State Championship over the course of the points earning period.

  3. Are not current members of any intercollegiate or high school golf team at the time of the championship.

Team Selection

The top two (2) eligible point earners and one (1) TGA Championship Committee selection will make up the 2018 USGA Men’s State Team. Points are calculated from the TGA Statewide Points breakdown.

In all designated TGA team events, including those sponsored, sanctioned and/or selected by the TGA, the Association reserves the right to not select or invite any player(s) whose unbecoming conduct or actions are deemed detrimental to the traditions and high ideals of the Texas Golf Association and the game of golf. Such determination is at the sole discretion of the TGA Championship Committee.

Points Earning Period

Points will be awarded beginning with the 2016 USGA Amateur (Championship only) and will conclude following the 2018 TGA Mid-Amateur Match Play Championship and 2018 USGA Amateur Qualifying. Please note that any points earned during the 2018 USGA Amateur championship and USGA Mid-Amateur qualifying and championship will not count towards making the 2018 USGA Men’s State Team, but will carry forwards towards the 2020 team.

Double Points

Double points will be awarded for the following TGA events: 2017 Texas Mid-Amateur, 2018 Texas Four-Ball, 2018 Texas Amateur, and 2018 Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play.

Tie For Second Spot

Tie for the last team spot will be broken in the following order: 1) By the better finish in the current year’s Texas Amateur; 2) Highest ranking on the current year’s Texas Player of the Year points list; 3) By the better finish in the current year’s Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play.
