Romero Scholarship Program

Romero Scholarship Program

Summary

The Bob Romero scholarship recognizes that the ultimate goal of introducing kids to golf is to help develop a lasting love for the game.  Providing an opportunity to transition from learning golf skills to playing golf and ultimately competing is a critical part of the process.  The scholarship program connects junior golfers with life-changing competitive experiences through the Legends Junior Tour when limited financial resources would otherwise prevent it.

Almost every city with a golf course has some form of junior golf program and there are also many leagues and local organizations offering junior golf outings, competition and play days.  The partners in the Texas Junior Golf Alliance (Northern and Southern Texas PGA and Houston Golf Association) offer a great selection to programs like these.

The Bob Romero Scholarship provides financial support to allow junior golfers who are ready to take the next step and advance to the Legends Junior Tour and challenge themselves in tournament play.

About Bob Romero

This scholarship was established to honor the memory of longtime TGA Director Dr. Robert Romero, or “Dr. Bob” as he was called by all who came to know him. Dr. Bob embodied the true volunteer spirit and devoted untold hours giving back to the game he dearly loved.  During his 20-plus years as a TGA director, he continually traversed across the state working the association’s championships as a rules official, starter or in whatever capacity was needed.

Funds and Applications

The scholarship is funded solely through donations from TGA Foundation supporters.  Donations are requested and accepted during the championship registration process for Legends Junior Tour and TGA Championships, offering current championship players an opportunity to pave the way for the next generation.
