Walnut Creek CC to Host North Amateur

The Texas Golf Association is excited to be heading to Walnut Creek Country Club, the site of the 2013 North Amateur. This will be the first TGA event held at Walnut Creek and we are sure it will have been worth the wait.

Located in Mansfield, Walnut Creek is comprised of two championship worthy golf course. The Pecan Course, designed by Don January, is the clubs original course and will play host to the North Amateur. The Pecan Course is a classic design and will provide a great test for all of the players. The back nine of the Pecan Course will challenge every players ability as it plays into the predominant southerly wind. Shot making ability is sure to be a determining factor in the outcome of this exciting event.

The format for the championship is set for 54 holes of individual stroke play.  Entries are open to male amateur golfers residing above the 31st parallel.  Applicants must have a certified GHIN Handicap Index of 8.4 or less and meet the requirements listed in the “TGA Policies and Procedures”.

In 2012, Chris Gilbert started off the week on fire, shooting 66-67 in the first two rounds. Kyle Pilgrim made an aggressive run in the final round recording a 5-under, 66. However, Gilberts closed out the North Amateur shooting an even-par 71 to win by two shots. Gilbert fired a three round total of 9-under, 204. Kyle Pilgrim finished alone in second place with a three round total of 7-under, 206.
