Tierra Verde Golf Club Defeats DAC

Tierra Verde Golf Club pulled off a dramatic win against Dallas Athletic Club by a single point in the finals of the State League Play Championships today at Horseshoe Bay Resort’s famed Apple Rock course. The weather cooperated with ideal scoring conditions on a beautiful day with light winds.

Tierra Verde’s scratch match of Lewis Stephenson and Trey Rowe got off to a fast start and never looked back in their match against the lead DAC team of Mike Schrade and Matt Eltz. In the second match it appeared that DAC would cancel out the results in the first match when DAC’s Jeff Seibert and CJ Brock won the front and back nine points, but Lance Dunaway and Ben Hicks III fought hard to the end and managed to earn a critical .5 point on the 18th hole.

Tierra Verde lead in the third match most of the day thanks to the fine play of Doug Foster and Sam Saxton of Tierra Verde. DAC fought hard but could only manage a .5 points for the back 9.

The final match of the day saw DAC’s team of Lance Adams and Greg Armstrong pick up 2.5 points, but in the end, the .5 point the Teirra Verde team won by winning the front nine was all the Tierra Verde team needed to seal the win and the trophy.
