Four Teams Tied for the Lead at the State Four-Ball
(Kingwood, TX) – Kingwood’s Deerwood Club is playing host to the first Texas Golf Association state championship of the 2014 season with the State Four-Ball Championship. There are four teams tied at 6-under par 66 in the Championship division after the opening round. The Senior division leaders after the first round are the team of Mike Booker and Mike Peck at 7-under par 65. Leading the Super Senior division is the duo of Mike Arnold and Bob Hullender at 3-under par 69.
The teams of Clark Kincaid/Brandon Scott, Trevor Hyde/Ed Sanchez, Brian Madison/Casey Hollomon, and Gregory Nordstrom/Jeff Stringer, all put together 6-under par opening rounds in the Championship division to lead by one stroke. Turning in an opening round 5-under par 67 are the teams of James Bartell/John Hunter and Greg Cole/Daniel Cook. In all, 12 teams are at 3-under 69 or better heading into Saturday’s second round in the Championship division.
In the Senior division, Booker and Peck, of The Woodlands and Irving respectively, registered birdies early and often. With birdies on three of the first five holes the duo was able to turn at 3-under par 33. Four more birdies on the back nine allowed for them to take a three shot lead heading into the second round over Jerry Hudgins and Mike Rice. Hudgins and Rice, of Tyler and Houston, posted an opening round score of 4-under par 68. Defending Senior division champions, Bob Kearney and Gary Durbin, sit in third place alone at 3-under par 69.
The Super Senior division once again sees a familiar team atop the standings after the opening round with Arnold and Hullender carding six birdies and three bogeys en route to their 3-under par round.
Teams will be jockeying for position in Saturday’s second round with a cut after 36 holes in the Championship and Senior divisions.
