Team Turpin Leads by One-Shot After Round 1

Fredericksburg, TX-Jeff and Jack Turpin from Dallas lead
the Championship Flight of the 2014 State Father-Son Championship by one-shot
after firing a first round score of 5-under, 66. Team Turpin will head into the
second day of the annual tournament with the Lees, Heathcotts, Gills, and
Sconiers all trailing just one shot back after the first eighteen holes. Team
Turpin will look to extend their lead as they get ready to tee off during the
afternoon wave on Saturday.

As the sunshine began to shine through during the afternoon
tee times, the wind picked up as the players prepared to begin their opening
round. The Hogan Flight is being led by Rick Frauenberger II and Rick
Frauenberger III after the duo came out firing a net 3-under par 68, but will
certainly feel the pressure with team Maurer sitting at net 69 and team Quirk
just two shots back at net 70. The Frauenbergers, from Grapeland, recorded four
net birdies on the front nine and an additional four birdies on the back nine
to take the lead in the opening round.

The Nelson Flight is currently being led by Mike and Jason
Scoggins. The father-son team from Dallas holds a comfortable three shot lead
heading into the second round after recording a net 8-under, 63. The next
closest competitors are Steve and Steve Reid II, standing three shots back at a
respectable net 66. Team Scoggins will be will be teeing off at 7:40 AM.

Trey Rowe and Randy Mattingly lead the Crenshaw Flight by
one shot over Dennis and Mark Miller and Allen and Brayden Cheatham after
carding a net 7-under par, 64. The Millers turned in a competitive score of 65
and will look to overcome the Rowe-Mattingly duo as they prepare for the
second day. The annual 54-hole event will have all players pushing for riskier
shots with greater rewards as the tournament continues and the time frame to
move into the lead spot begins to diminish.

Last, but certainly not least is the Kite Flight. Tension
and nerves will be peaking as the teams competing for the lead spot arrive on
Saturday. The flight is currently led by Keith and Joel Scully, but with the
teams of Hill and West just two shots back, it is safe to say the race is close.
Team Scully fired off a 4-under par 67, with the Wests and Hills trailing very
close behind after a net 69.
