Wichita Falls CC Set For 2014 West Texas Amateur

The 86th annual West Texas Amateur, conducted by the Texas Golf Association, will be held July 18-20 at Wichita Falls Country Club, which is celebrating its centennial anniversary this year.

Scheduled for 54 holes of individual stroke play, the West Texas Amateur features three divisions: Open, Senior (55 and older), and Super Senior (65 and older).

All contestants will play 18 holes on both Friday, July 18, and Saturday, July 19. After the completion of 36 holes, the 144-player starting field will be cut heading into the final round on Sunday, July 20.

The deep roots of Wichita Falls Country Club can be traced back to 1914 when Scottish immigrant Fred Couper and some friends established a nine-hole course on Victory Street. From these humble beginnings, Wichita Falls has evolved into one of the area’s premier clubs. The respected architectural team of D.A. Weibring and Steve Wolford completely renovated the classic parkland-style course in 2008.

In its long and distinguished history, Wichita Falls CC has been a major supporter of amateur golf and has hosted every major championship on the TGA schedule including: four Senior Amateurs, three Texas Amateurs, a State Mid-Amateur, a State Father-Son, and numerous West Texas Amateurs.

Once the action gets underway from Wichita Falls, live scoring updates and daily recaps, as well as tee-times and pairings, will be available at txga.org. For more about 2014 West Texas Amateur, please contact the main office at 214.468.8942.
