Jordan Sanders Wins South Amateur Championship

KERRVILLE – Jordan Sanders closed out the South Amateur Championship with a 2-under par 70 in his final round to claim victory at 8-under 208.  The Hills and Creeks courses at The Club at Comanche Trace provided the backdrop for Sanders’ first Texas Golf Association regional series win, which was presented by Club Champion.
Sanders, from Cedar Park, entered the final round with a narrow one stroke lead over Fulshear’s John Dowdall at 6-under par.  Sanders again posted red numbers in the final round with three birdies on the Hills course.  Those birdies, coupled with two bogeys, allowed for Sanders to turn at 1-under par 35 as he headed to the Creeks course.  A final birdie on the par-3 14th hole saw Sanders reach 8-under par for three days. He cruised in from there to a six-shot win.
San Antonio’s Jimmy Keener entered the final round two shots behind Sanders. He never quite put together a string of birdies and pars he needed to keep up.  His front nine saw only two birdies, but they were offset by three bogeys and Keener turned at 1-over par 37.  Two more birdies and a double bogey on the closing nine holes gave him a final round 1-over 73. That gave him a three-day total of 2-under 214 to finish alone in second place.
Dowdall was only able to muster two final round birdies, while turning in six bogeys. He finished at 4-over 76 and 1-under 215 for the championship.  Comanche Trace member Trevor Hyde finished alone in fourth place with a three day total of even-par 216.
The Texas Golf Association would like to thank the membership and staff at The Club at Comanche Trace for their gracious hospitality throughout the championship.
