2015 USGA Women's State Team Championship

Following in the footsteps of noted trailblazers Lewis & Clark, albeit more than two hundred years apart, a new group of intrepid explorers will alight in Cape Girardeau from Sept. 10-12 when Dalhousie Golf Club hosts the 2015 USGA Women’s State Team Championship.
 
Representing Team Texas in the biennial event are playing-captain Stacy Dennis of Dallas, Anna Schultz of Rockwall, and Rachel Smith of Mansfield.
 
“I really like our team’s chances this year,” said Dennis, a two-time WTGA State Amateur champion and a Managing Director for the Texas Golf Association. “Anna’s a USGA National Champion and Texas Golf Hall of Famer, and Rachel is always in contention every time she tees it up.  We’ll have lots of fun and I know we’ll be prepared and ready to play great golf in Missouri.”
 
The championship is conducted with three-woman teams from all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The format is three rounds of stroke play in which the two lowest scores of each team count for their daily total.
 
The course at Dalhousie Golf Club, which opened in 2002, was designed by Nicklaus Design, with Gary Nicklaus as the principal architect. The course occupies land originally settled in 1798 by Scottish immigrant, Rebecca Ramsey, sister of the Earl of Dalhousie.
 
First held in 1995, the Men’s and Women’s State Team grew out of the USGA’s year-long Centennial celebration and proved to be such a huge success that it was agreed to conduct the event every two years. In 2010, the decision was made to stage the competitions in alternate years, with the Men’s State Team Championship conducted in even years and the Women’s State Team in odd years.
 
At the 2013 championship at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio, Team Texas, represented by Mina Hardin of Fort Worth, Megan Thothong of Dallas and Taylor Slagle of Southlake, combined for a team score of 471 over 54-holes to finish in 14th place.
