Flor Canedo Leads Womens Eclectic

Flor Canedo of The Woodlands leads after the first round of the Women's Eclectic hosted at The Clubs at Sonterra.  Canedo, a newcomer to Women's TGA competition, shot a four over par 76 to lead three-time Champion Anna Schultz and Joanna Staton by one stroke.  2014 Eclectic Champion Anna Morales and 2014 Texas Pinehurst champion Becky Neal shot matching 78s and sit in fourth place, only two shots out of the lead.

Canedo recently completed her collegiate golf career at Boston University.  Her steady round featured 14 pars and puts her in a good position heading into tomorrow's final round when players can only improve on their first round total.  6th-placed Carolyn Creekmore is poised to make the biggest potential move after an up and down round that featured both three double bogeys and four birdies.  Creekmore's 79 ties her with local favorite Kelley Nittoli and highlights the appeal of this unique format.  For players with some good holes and some "others", the Eclectic offers an excellent opportunity for redemption – replacing a few bad holes to complement a good round provides a chance to post an exceptional 18-hole score.

Three of the five players who have pledged to play 100 Holes of Women's Competition in support of the Breaking 100 program also competed.  Terry Dukes from Horseshoe Bay leads the 2nd flight with a 7-over par 79.  Nannette Wheelis (Waco) and San Antonio's Donna Brady are also competing in the 2nd flight.  All three are almost 1/5 of the way to their pledge to raise awareness and funds for the TGA Foundation's Women's Initiatives.  Learn more about the Breaking 100 campaign here.

112 players begin the final round at 9:00 tomorrow morning.  The gross score winner of the first flight is crowned the Eclectic Champion and will earn 10 valuable Player of the Year points.  In all, there are seven flights, with players competing for both gross and net prizes in each.
