Guercio, Jones Win Weather-Shortened Collegiate Preview

ANNA, Texas – Frisco’s Crosby Guercio and 2015 Girls LJT Player of the Year Hailey Jones won the third annual Collegiate Preview at Hurricane Creek Country Club.

For the second year in a row, the Legends Junior Tour Collegiate Preview was shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather.

Tee times for the final round started at 8:00 AM but play was suspended at 8:51 AM due to severe weather in the area. With severe weather still forecasted throughout the day and Hurricane Creek saturated with water, the Legends Junior Tour officials decided to cancel the final round and shorten the championship to 36 holes.

The Collegiate Preview is modeled after a college-style event and is set to prepare junior golfers for the next level. The tournament featured 78 golfers who are all over the age of 14 years.

This is Guercio’s first victory on the Legends Junior Tour. On Monday, he carded rounds of 71-67 to get to 6-under-par for the tournament before Tuesday’s round was cancelled. He carded nine total birdies throughout his two rounds. His bogey-free second round propelled him to a one-shot victory.

Granbury’s Tucker Allen finished in second place, one shot back after rounds of 70-69 to get to 5-under 139 for the tournament. Travis McInroe and Pierceson Coody, both from Plano finished tied for third, three shots back of Guercio. Tobin Niblett, Kyle Robinson, and Ryan Grider, the two-time defending champion, finished tied for fifth at 2-under 142 for the tournament.

Jones captured her third LJT victory in four events this year. The clear leader in the race for 2016 LJT Girls Player of the Year honors, Jones carded rounds of 73-74 Monday for a 3-over 147 two-round total. She had two up-and-down rounds that included an eagle and also a double-bogey. Three-over was enough after two rounds to have a two-shot lead.

Carrollton’s Jennie Park finished in second place behind Jones. She was the first-round leader after a 71 on Monday, but followed it up in the afternoon with a 6-over 78. Austin’s Chandler Rosholt and Plano’s Camille Enright finished tied for third, five shots back of Jones. Brett Permann and Amber Park finished tied for fifth place.

This was the second consecutive year Hurricane Creek Country Club has hosted the third annual Collegiate Preview. Ridgewood CC in Waco hosted the inaugural event. For more information on the Collegiate Preview and the Legends Junior Tour, please click here. For final results, click here.
