Mark and Andrew Lindberg Lead Father-Son After Round One

HORSESHOE BAY—Mark and Andrew Lindberg of Coppell lead the 2016 Father-Son Championship by one stroke after shooting a 5-under 67 on the Apple Rock course at Horseshoe Bay Resort.

The Texas Father-Son Championship consists of five flights with play spanning 54 holes. Eighty-eight father-son teams will play three rounds and will compete to become champions of their respective flights.

The championship flight teed off during the morning wave which began at 8:00 a.m. Leading after completion of play were Mark and Andrew Lindberg. They fired off seven birdies with only two bogeys to shoot their 5-under 67. They currently hold sole possession of the lead but only by one stroke. Father and son teams, Burl and Trip Hobson of Crockett and Cameron and Dean Brown of Jacksonville, both shot 4-under 68’s and are tied for second. After one day of play, only eight of the 37 teams in the championship flight remain under par with one team at even par.

The Hogan flight followed suit with seven out of the 12 teams under par and one team at even par. Leading the Hogan flight is Jeff and Walker White from the Dallas area. They started their front nine strong with four net birdies and only one bogey. Their back nine was more of the same with one net eagle and two net birdies. However, they finished their round with back-to-back bogeys on holes 16 and 17. Despite the slow finish they maintain a one stroke lead over the rest of the field in their flight.

In the Nelson flight, two teams are tied for first after round one. Father and son duos, Charles and Lee Thorton and Trey and Jace Caldwell, shot 3-under 69’s for the day and hold the top spot. Trailing them are three teams that sit two back of the lead at 1-under.

The lowest scores were shot in the Crenshaw flight. Mike and Jon Olszewski shot a net score of 7-under 65. This was the lowest score of the day. Despite the low number their lead is not insurmountable. Right behind them is Larry and Tyler Wright. They had the second lowest score of the day with a 6-under 66.

The Kite flight was the last flight to post scores for the day. Ron and Jason Stringer lead this flight after shooting a net score of 6-over 78. They have a slim one shot lead over second place holders, Ashley and Jacob Hunter and David Cash and his son David Cash Jr.

The second round of the 2016 Texas Father-Son Championship will begin tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. The Nelson, Hogan and Crenshaw flights will tee off during the morning wave followed by the Championship flight and Hogan flight in the afternoon wave.
