First Round of the George Hannon Junior Invitational Delayed

Austin– Heavy rain and a saturated golf course caused the opening round of the George Hannon Junior Invitational to get delayed to Tuesday. The tournament will begin with an 8:00 AM shotgun at Barton Creek Country Club. The championship has been reduced to an 18-hole tournament.

More than six inches of rain have accumulated on the Crenshaw Cliffside course at Barton Creek Country Club in the last three days, causing areas to become saturated and soft. The second round of the championship was cancelled after players were unable to get out on the course Monday.

The first round was originally scheduled to begin at 7:30 AM on Monday. There were three different delays on the first day before play was suspended until Tuesday.

This is the third event on the Legends Junior Tour schedule that has seen a round get cancelled due to inclement weather. The third round of the Collegiate Preview and the Texas State Junior Championship Boys Division were both canceled to due heavy rain and lightning.

The Hannon Cup Society created this invitational in 2009. Since then, the LJT has conducted the prominent invitational, bringing the top 99 boys and girls in the state together to compete. Players earn exemptions into the event through their play in Texas Junior Golf Alliance events as well as the Player of the Year Standings.
