Joshua Irving opens with 67 to lead North Mid-Amateur

Arlington, TX – Joshua Irving fired an opening round 5-under-par, 67 to take the lead after the first round of the North Mid-Amateur at Tierra Verde Golf Club. Danny Lovell, Kevin Doskocil, and Brandon Scott are all tied for second after shooting 1-under-par, 71 and four back of Irving.

Joshua Irving of Irving started his round on the 10th with three birdies on the back nine before surrendering his only bogey of the day on the 423 yard par four, seventh. Irving, however, quickly bounced back and birdied the short 518 yard par five, eight. Irving, a member of the Arlington Golf Association, finds himself to play well at Tierra Verde Golf Club as he was previously a part of the winning team at the 2015 North Four-Ball with partner Michael Ray. Irving will look to maintain his lead on Saturday when he tees off at 8:18am off #1 tee.

Chasing Irving is the 1-under-par, 71 group of Danny Lovell, Kevin Doskocil, and Brandon Scott. Danny Lovell of Dallas began his day off the 1st tee and found himself four over after four. He quickly changed that after birdieing the 434 yard par four, 5th and the 518 yard par five, 8th. Lovell added two more birdies on his back nine. Lovell begins his round off the 10th tee at 9:48am on Saturday.

Kevin Doskocil of Benbrook started his round off differently than Lovell by jumping out of the gate with three birdies on the front nine. After two bogeys on the 10th and 11th, Doskocil rebounded by eagling the 513 yard par five, 13th. Doskocil looks to make a move during Saturday’s round when he tees off at 9:30am off #10 tee.

Brandon Scott of Justin carded four birdies and three bogeys on his way to a 1-under-par 71. Scott, started his day by bogeying his opening hole, #10, but found momentum on his second nine by carding three lone birdies and no bogeys. Scott finished just shy at the 2015 North Mid-Amateur when he got himself into contention before falling one stroke short of the Champion Zach Atkinson. Scott will try to erase the deficit on Saturday when he tees off early at 8:09am off #1 tee.

Formally known as the Super Mid-Am, the North Mid-Amateur recognizes the Mid-Master (ages 40 and older) in the field in which Scott leads McKinney’s Bill Jackson by one. Jackson’s even par 72 has him in a tie for 5th overall.

After battling the winds of North Texas, players will look to make a move on the leaders tomorrow. Tee times for the second round will begin again at 8:00am off the 1st and 10th tee. For complete results, click here.
