North Texas Classic Field Set for Third Year

DALLAS — The North Texas Classic enters its third year on the Legends Junior Tour schedule and provides another strong field of players from around the state of Texas on Sept. 9-10.

This event was created in 2015 to answer the growing demand of junior golfers in and around the state. This will be one of the last chances for players to earn points towards the LJT Player of the Year Points List. The list will be used to determine the LJT’s Players of the year as well as the top players being invited to the Jackie Burke Cup matches in November.

The 36-hole tournament returns to Tangle Ridge Golf Club in Grand Prairie, Texas. Tangle Ridge was designed by Jeff Brauer and was voted as one of the state’s top public championship courses. The 18-hole layout meanders through the hilly terrain and carves its way through the trees and bodies of water.

Mission’s Jun Min Lee won the Boys 15-18 Division last year. Lee posted rounds of 67-68 to get to 9-under overall and five strokes ahead of the field. Austin’s Cole Sherwood won the Boys 14 & Under Division at even-par 144 overall, while Carrollton’s Serena Shah won the Girls 12-18 Division at 1-over 145 overall.

In 2015, Mark Reppe won the Boys 15-18 Division with an overall score of 5-under 139. Reppe finished one stroke ahead of four players, who were tied at 140 overall. Dawson Ovard won the Boys 14 & Under Division that year, while Jennie Park won the Girls 12-18 Division.

The tournament will be ranked by Junior Golf Scoreboard and Golfweek and will offer players AJGA performance stars and exemptions into future LJT Invitational tournaments. The 84-player field will compete in a stroke play event with 18 holes being contested on Sept. 9 and another 18 on Sept. 10.

Tee times for both rounds will begin at 8:00 AM each day. Players will tee off the No. 1 and 10 tees for both rounds and awards will be handed out to the top finishers of each Division after the conclusion of play. Players are split into three separate divisions: Boys 15-18, Boys 14 & Under and Girls 12-18.
