Summy and Shah Win Texas Junior Amateur 14 and Under Divisions

HORSESHOE BAY – Jase Summy of Keller and Symran Shah of Carrollton are both going home as Texas Junior Amateur champions after today’s round. Summy won the Boys 14 & Under Division by two shots with a 7-under-par tournament total. Shah won the Girls 14 & Under Division by an impressive nine shots with a tournament total of 4-under.

Summy started the day two shots out of the lead but a final round bogey-free 5-under 67 allowed him to finish on top of the leaderboard. He started hot with three birdies on his front nine and stayed consistent by making two more on his back nine.
 
Dallas’ Andrew Petruzzelli finished in second two shots behind Summy at 5-under. Keaton Vo of Austin and Hunter Millsap of Frisco finished tied for third at 3-under-par. Dallas’ Ben Delarosa and Grapevine’s Logan Zurn tied for fifth place at 2-under par. 
 
Shah was the only girl to finish under par in her division. She was able to extend her first-round lead by shooting a final round 1-under 71. She recorded eight birdies for the two days.
 
Brooke McDonough of Spicewood and Darrelyn Webster of Austin tied for second at 5-over-par after both shooting a final round 4-over 76.
 
The Texas Junior Amateur is a prestigious junior event with past champions in the Boys 14 & Under Division like 3-time major champion Jordan Spieth who won in 2007, Oklahoma State University stand-out Stratton Nolen who won in 2009, Oklahoma University Sooner Garrett Reband the 2013 champion, and incoming freshman at the University of Texas Parker Coody who won in 2014.
 
The Girls 14 & Under Division also has a list full of successful past champions, including the 2008 Grace Choi who went on to win the Women’s State Amateur in 2016, A&M University stand-out Courtney Dow who won in 2010, and the 2011 champion Kaitlyn Papp who was declared the 2018 Big 12 Freshman of the Year. 
 
Horseshoe Bay Resort is hosting the Texas Junior Amateur for the eighth time in the last nine years. The event moved to The Woodlands Country Club for 2016 but has returned to the renovated Slick Rock Golf Course. Slick Rock was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and features more than 70 bunkers and 12 water hazards including the waterfall on the par-4 14th.
