Legends Junior Tour Returns to College Station

DALLAS – For the second year in a row, the Legends Junior Tour heads down to College Station for the Fall Challenge at the Golf Club at Texas A&M on Oct. 13-14.

The Fall Challenge was created to satisfy the growing need for open events to junior golfers on the Legends Junior Tour. The Junior Golf Alliance, which is the alliance between the Northern and Southern Texas PGA along with the Houston Golf Association and the LJT, has grown in number of members each year since its creation.

The tournament will be contested over 36 holes of stroke play competition. The 84-player field will be split into three divisions: Boys 15-18, Boys 14 & Under and Girls 12-18. Points towards the LJT Player of the Year standings as well as exemptions into future LJT Invitational Tournaments are up for grabs to the top finishers of the event. The event will be ranked by both Golfweek and Junior Golf Scoreboard.

The Golf Club at Texas A&M is hosting the Legends Junior Tour for the first time. The course originally opened in 1951 and was designed by Ralph Plummer. In 2013, Texas A&M’s own, Jeff Blume completed a redesign of the course that sat on the Texas A&M Campus for more than 60 years. Blume teamed with Robert Steele and Sterling Golf on the $5 million project, which included an 18-hole championship golf course, driving range and shot game practice area for research. The course can stretch out to 7,000 yards and features rolling hills along with 158 bunkers scattered throughout the property. The par-71 layout will provide a good test for the 84-player field.

With the season’s end drawing near, Player of the Year Points are becoming very important as players jockey for Jackie Burke Cup teams and of course the LJT Player of the Year. This is the last event to earn points in both the Boys 14 & Under and the Girls 12-18 Division. The top two players for each team will be invited to the Jackie Burke Cup matches, while the winner of each division will be crowned the Player of the Year. The Boys 15-18 Division has two events left, including the Texas Cup Invitational, which is the final major event of the season.

Tee times for the first round begin at 8:00 am off the No. 1 and 10 tees on Saturday. Final Round pairings will be redrawn according to first round scores and be tee times off the No. 1 and 10 tees on Sunday from 8:00 am – 10:00 am.
