Hardy and Marchiori Lead South Four-Ball

Briefly: Kiley Hardy and Brian Marchiori lead the first round of the South Four-Ball presented by Impact Precision Golf. The duo rolled in one eagle and four birdies en route to a 6-under par 66 at Sugar Creek Country Club in Sugar Land. They hold a narrow lead over three teams at 5-under par 67.

Golf Course: Sugar Creek Country Club is located in Sugar Land, just southwest of downtown Houston. Built in 1972, the Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed golf course features 27 holes. This weekend’s championship is being played on the Trent and Jones nines. All three nines have undergone a renovation within the last 6 years. Today’s round was contested at 6,795 yards with a par of 72.
 
Weather: 77 degrees and partly cloudy with brief rain showers this morning and winds at 17mph and gusts to 25mph.
 
In contention: Three teams are tied and one stroke back of the leaders at 5-under par 67: Justin Kaplan/Alan Ferries, Gordon Wagner/David Ortego and Joey Rippel/Blake Redmond. Rounding out the top five are four teams tied at 4-under par 68: John Dowdall/Benjamin Biederer, Robert Skeen/Devaughn Robinson, Jeff Brame/Kurtis Lilley and Jonathan Shipley/Toby Zeringue. In addition to their steady play, Toby Zeringue also recorded his second hole-in-one on the par three 15th hole. He used an 8-iron from 175 yards.
 
What’s Next: Final round tee times start tomorrow at 8:00 AM off both No. 1 & 10 tees. There will be a brief awards presentation for the winners following play.
