LaRose and Lipton Lead After Round 1 of Texas Stableford Handicap

KERRVILLE – Mike LaRose of Plano and Josh Lipton of Austin have the lead after the first round of play at the 2019 Texas Stableford Handicap at Riverhill Country Club.  LaRose and Lipton carded 67 points, 9 over their first round quota. 
Combined, the duo holed seven birdies and 18 par-saves, placing them at the top of field, along with the Nelson flight, before Saturday’s second round.

First Round Results | Round 2 Pairings

Golf Course: Designed by close friends Joe Finger and Byron Nelson in 1974, Riverhill Country Club’s 18-hole course is a premier location for golf in Texas and the United States.  Based in the heart of Hill Country, the course boasts its rare bent-grass greens and a 7,137 yard, 72-par challenge featuring scenic creeks, hills and a lake throughout the property.  Over time, the course became Nelson’s favorite, where he was quoted saying, “If I had only one golf course to play, it would be Riverhill.”

Weather: Sunny, high of 97 degrees with a southerly wind at 8 mph.

In Contention: Following the leaders are Mike Curry and Jerry Noble, both of Houston.  The men carded 47 points, 5 over their first round quota.  Curry and Noble lead the Kite flight.

In the Nelson flight, the defending champions, Jamey Freisleben of Montgomery and Russell Schroeder of LaPorte finished the round with 63 points, 4 over their first round quota. 

Three teams are tied having scored 3 points over their first round quotas:  Don Cole of Aledo and his teammate Ruben Sanchez of Odessa finished with 63 points, while Richard Hare and Milton Salter of Montgomery scored 67 points. Riverhill Country Club members Scott Stumbo and Dennis Terrill scored 72 points. All three teams share the lead in the Hogan flight going into Saturday’s round.

What’s Next: Round 2 tee times begin Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m. off No. 1 & 10 tees at Riverhill Country Club.
