Anna Schultz Wins 2019 Women's Senior Stroke Play
Briefly: A flawless front-nine and just a single bogey, along with two birdies, gave two-time Women’s Senior Stroke Play Champion Anna Schultz of Heath yet another championship title Wednesday afternoon. Schultz carded a 1-under 71 Final Round, finishing at even-par 216 at Pebble Creek Country Club in College Station.
A “steady round” of mostly pars helped Schultz bring home the overall title once again. But it may have been the second-round moment that was all the motivation. “That eagle on nine yesterday kind of kick-started my round and the rest of my tournament,” Schultz said. “But my ‘bulldog attitude’ of sticking to my game really helped me keep a lead in this great field of players.”
Schultz is no stranger to winning: She won the Texas Women’s Senior in both 2012 and 2014, recently winning the 2018 Southern Senior Amateur Championship as well.
“I was thrilled to win this tournament again,” Schultz said. “You never know if you can go at (golfing) again, and after winning today, I feel like I can still compete with the younger seniors.”
It was a year for repeats in the other divisions, too. Marian Barker of Lubbock, a recent addition to the super-senior division and 2018 overall champion, captured victory, and finished 7-over-par. Likewise, Pam Almandoz of Houston repeated as Super-Super-Senior Division champion.
