Anna Schultz and Jewel Malick Win 2019 Women's Texas Pinehurst

Briefly:  Due to unplayable course conditions after winter weather arrived Monday night in Boerne, the final round of play was canceled Tuesday morning.  Teammates Anna Schultz and Jewel Malick of Heath, were named the winners after a single round of play with a one-under-par 71 at Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort.

Schultz and Malick carded a combined three birdies and 13 par-saves to capture their second Women’s Texas Pinehurst title. The duo also won in 2016 at The Woodlands Palmer Course.  Schultz and Malick add this year’s Pinehurst to wins at the 2008 and 2014 Women’s Four-Ball Championship.

Golf Course: Known as one of Texas’ best public courses, Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort embodies the true nature of the Hill Country region.  Redesigned in 2015 by renowned golf course architect Tripp Davis, the championship course features 18 holes at 6,477 yards tucked into beautiful rugged hills, surrounded by Texas live oak trees, native grasses and a small lake placed in the heart of the course.  Along with these renovations, a beautifully rebuilt clubhouse rose from the ashes after a 2017 fire completely destroyed the old clubhouse.  The Women’s Texas Pinehurst first round played at around 5,311 yards on Monday.

Weather: Boerne was included in a nation-wide cold front that swept in swiftly overnight, bringing frigid temperatures, freezing rain and light snow flurries to the Texas Hill Country.  The high Tuesday was 43 degrees, with north winds at 16 mph and gusts of up to 26 mph.

In Contention:  Meg Christensen of Austin and Carol Turnage of Anna finished runner-up after carding a 3-over 73 on Monday.

Cynthia Dougherty of Corpus Christi and Jennifer Hoyt of Horseshoe Bay finished third on the back of two combined birdies and ten par-saves. The duo carded a 5-over 77.

What’s Next: The Texas Women’s Pinehurst concluded the 2019 women’s season. Starting the 2020 season will be the Women’s Eclectic at Hackberry Creek Country Club in Irving March 9-10.

The Texas Golf Association staff would like to express our sincerest gratitude to Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort’s staff and members for helping make the 2019 Texas Women’s Pinehurst a memorable experience for all who played.
