Hardin Leads After First Round of Women’s Senior Stroke Play

Waco: Fort Worth’s Mina Hardin finds herself at the top of the leaderboard after shooting 1-over-par 73. Hardin’s first round started on the par-4 first hole and included an eagle, two birdies and five bogeys on the day. Her eagle came on her sixth hole of the round, the par-5 tenth. The pair of birdies were made on the par-4 second and par-4 seventh. Hardin’s first round playing was good enough for a solo spot atop the leader board.

In Contention: Siting in second place, one shot back of Hardin, is Joanna Staton of McKinney. Staton’s three birdies on the day lead her to a first round score of 2-over-par, 74. In third place, shooting 3-over-par 75, is Corpus Christi’s Camm Dougherty. In a tie for fourth at 6-over-par 78 is Anna Morales of Austin and Jewell Malick of Heath. Nine players find themselves within seven shots of the lead heading into tomorrow’s second round.

 

Weather: A majority of Wednesday’s first round had overcast skies with the sun occasionally shining through the clouds. Temperatures stayed in the mid to high 80’s with a high of 87 degrees. The player’s had to battle wind all day as there was a steady wind of 23 mph, with gusts up to 33 mph at times.

 

Golf Course: Designed by Texan Ralph Plummer, Ridgewood opened for play in 1947. Plummer utilized the site’s natural features – rolling, wooded land overlooking Lake Waco – to create a classic layout that features narrow fairways, cavernous bunkers and exceptionally quick, undulating green complexes.

 

Next Up: Next on the TGA Women’s schedule is the Women’s Texas Pinehurst. This year’s championship will be played November 1-2 at Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course in Fredericksburg. Registration for the Women’s Texas Pinehurst will close on October 20 at 5:00 pm.
