Galvan and Bolado Win Alamo Shootout

Kerrville – Elijah Galvan, of Lakeway, cards a final round of 3-under 69 to win the Boys Division of the Alamo Shootout at 6-under 138. Presley Bolado, of New Braunfels, wins the Girls Division carding a final round 2-over 74 for a two-day total 3-over 147.

Champions: Elijah Galvan, of Lakeway, wins the Boys Division by two strokes after carding rounds of 69-69 to finish at 6-under 138. Galvan’s weekend was powered by eleven birdies and an eagle. He was pressured down the stretch but played steady golf, carding a 1-under 35 on his final nine holes, including closing out the tournament with five straight pars. In the Girls Division, New Braunfels’ Presley Bolado went wire-to-wire to win by four strokes. Bolado carded rounds of 73-74 to put her at 3-over 147 on the event. Her victory was highlighted by eight total birdies throughout the weekend.

Top Finishers: Selma’s Shiv Parmar finishes second at 4-under 140. Parmar had eight birdies for the event. San Antonio’s Preston Hiller and Austin’s Yi Wen Huang finished tied for third at 3-under 141. In the Girls Division, Austin’s Mimi Burton finished runner-up at 7-over 151. Burton’s final round 1-over 73 was tied with Bolado’s first round as the single-round low within the division. Kerrville local, Raleygh Simpson, took the third spot in the division at 8-over 152.

Event Format: The Alamo Shootout is a 36-hole stroke play event with players competing in two divisions: Boys 12-18 and Girls 12-18. The field was selected based on the order of player signups.

Weather: Morning temperatures were in the low-60’s and climbed to the mid-60’s in the afternoon. The wind was a non-factor as speeds hovered around 5 miles per hour out of the northeast. Skies were partly cloudy throughout the day.

Golf Course: Designed by close friends Joe Finger and Byron Nelson in 1974, Riverhill Country Club’s 18-hole course is a premier location for golf in Texas and the United States. Based in the heart of Hill Country, the course boasts its rare bent-grass greens and a 7,137 yard, 72-par challenge featuring scenic creeks, hills and a lake throughout the property. Over time, the course became Nelson’s favorite, where he was quoted saying, “If I had only one golf course to play, it would be Riverhill.” The Boys Division played from approximately 6,800 yards while the Girls Division played the course at approximately 5,950 yards.

What’s next: The LJT starts the 2023 golf season on January 21-22 with the Winter Classic at Dallas Athletic Club’s Blue Course.
