Jimmie Demaret Junior Classic Set for Feb. 3-4
BURNET – The Legends Junior Tour heads back to Delaware Springs Golf Course for the second consecutive year as it hosts the Jimmy Demaret Classic on Feb. 3-4.
“We’re excited to be heading back to Delaware Springs Golf Course for this year’s championship” shared Tournament Director Adam Schulte. “The course provides a great all-around test and we’re looking forward to crowning another great set of champions come Sunday afternoon.”
Named after Texas Golf Legend, Jimmy Demaret, who won three Masters Tournaments and 31 PGA Tour events, this event holds great value. Jimmy was selected to four Ryder Cup teams where he held a 6-0-0 record and remains the only player to have a perfect Ryder Cup record who played on 2 or more teams and at least 5 matches. He also had unique style on tour which led to his nickname “The Wardrobe”. In 1978, Demaret was elected to the Texas Golf Hall of Fame before sadly passing away in 1983.
The inaugural Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic was held at Onion Creek Club in 2008. The event scheduled for 36 holes of individual Stroke Play, features 84 golfers playing in three different divisions: Boys 15-18, Girls 12-18 and Boys 14 & Under. This is the second Legend Junior Tour event of the 2024 season following the Winter Classic at the Wilderness Golf Club on Jan. 20-21.
Last Year, Austin’s Sterling Hurd shot an outstanding 67-72 to win by 5 strokes in the 15-18 Division. San Antonio’s Marissa Loya claimed the 12-18 Girls Division with rounds of 72-74, while Aadi Parmar won the Boys 14 & Under Division after shooting a dominant 69-69 to win by 5 strokes.
Hurd is in the field again this year and is looking to win his third Jimmy Demaret title in a row. No player in any of the divisions has won back-to-back-to-back championships. Other past champions include Cole Hammer, Sydney Givens, Jack Clancy, Annika Clark, Mac Meissner and Grant Yerger and Madi Olson who is the only back-to-back winner in the Girls 12-18 Division.
Delaware Springs Golf Course, located in Burnet, originally opened in 1992 and was designed by Dave Alexander and Dan Proctor. The par-72 layout tips out at over 6,800 yards.
Tee times begin Saturday at 8 a.m. The final round takes place on Sunday, Feb. 4. For more information about the Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic, click here.
