Casey Grice - LPGA Rookie

Casey Grice was introduced to Breaking 100 campaign leader Jeanne Sutherland as a 12 year old in College Station.  Sutherland was the Head Coach at Texas A&M at the time and met Casey and her mother at the driving range to evaluate the young player.  It only took a few chip shots for Sutherland to take Grice on as a student, and that introduction started her on the path to the LPGA tour.

While in high school, Grice played in Central Texas Junior Golf league summer events, many played at local nine-hole courses in the Bryan-College Station area.  She won her first golf tournament at the Texas 5A High School Championships and earned a scholarship to play at North Carolina.  After graduating in 2013, Grice started her professional golf career on the Symetra tour.  She spent two years on the LPGA's developmental tour before earning her ticket to the LPGA tour in 2016.

Grice has made three cuts in her first seven LPGA starts and is in the field this week at the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout in Irving, Texas.  She participated in the Inspiring Women event hosted at Las Colinas Country Club on Tuesday and spent time with several groups of fans explaining a "day in the life of a tour player".  Her time is very structured and focused on improving each day and looking for opportunities to fine tune details that will make even a tiny difference.  "Out here, it's always just about one stroke.  If I can improve my nutrition or fitness and can maybe make one more putt, that's what I'm looking for".  As focused and committed as she is to her craft, she is able to keep her attitude positive and light.  "It's an honor to play out here and I never want to forget that.  I try to remind myself of that every time I play."

Grice birdied the final hole on Thursday (April 28) to open this week's "home game" with a 2-under par 69 and heads into Friday's second round near the top of the field. For tickets, more information or to follow Casey's week, click here.
