Entry & Eligibility Information

Entries Open: June 2, 2020 @ 9:00 AM
Entries Close: July 15, 2020 @ 5:00 PM

Entry Fee: $250

Eligibility: Entries are open to male amateur golfers who reside in the state of Texas age 25 or older as of the first round of tournament play, with a WHS Handicap Index of 5.4 or less. Please reference TGA Policies and Procedures for further details, including Policies and Procedures, and Terms of Competition.

Exemptions: Provided players are otherwise eligible, exemptions are given to the following:
a. Last three (3) Texas Amateur Champions:

c. Players advancing into the Round of 16 in the match play portion of previous year’s Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play:
d. Top 10 finishers in the previous year’s Texas Mid-Amateur:
e. Top 10 finishers in the current year’s Texas Amateur:
f. Winner and Runner-up in the current year’s Regional Mid-Amateurs:
g. Low Mid-Master from previous year’s Texas Mid-Amateur:
h. Three Host Club Exemptions:

Entry Procedure: The field will be established in the order in which entries are received with a priority for exempt players until the published deadline of Wednesday, June 17 at 5:00 PM. Once the exemption deadline has passed, and if the field is not full, the TGA will fill the remaining spots in the field with waitlisted entries. These entries will be accepted into the field in the order in which they were received. After the close of entries, players that withdraw will be filled based on the waitlist. For additional information regarding wait list and when the number of applicants exceeds the field capacity, please refer to the TGA Policies and Procedures.

The TGA reserves the right to select players to be in the field. For exemption request details, please view TGA Policies and Procedures. Exempt players must enter by the published deadline or they will lose their exempt status.

Championship Information

Format/Field Size: The championship is scheduled for 18 holes of stroke play qualifying on Thursday, July 23. The low 32 players from stroke play qualifying will advance to match play beginning on Friday, July 24. The field is limited to 88 players.

What’s Included: The championship entry fee includes greens, cart, and range fees for all championship rounds including the championship practice round. The entry fee also includes a championship tee gift and lunch during match play rounds.

Hotel: There is no host hotel for the Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play. TGA members can take advantage of Affinity Travel Benefits by utilizing their hotel search engine by clicking here.

Practice Round Information: Each player is allowed one (1) complimentary practice round on Wednesday, July 22 only. Players must contact the Willow Brook CC Golf Shop on or after Wednesday, July 15 to schedule a practice round tee time.

Registration Information: There will be no player registration for this championship due to Covid-19. All players will receive their tee gifts following the completion of the stroke play qualifying round.

Starting Time / Pairings Information: Starting times/pairings for stroke play qualifying round will be made available no later than Monday, July 20 online at www.TXGA.org. Match play starting times/pairings will be made available in the evening proceeding stroke play qualifying (approximately one hour after the completion of play) online at www.TXGA.org. Match play draw will be based on the stroke play qualifying score and position.

Policies & Procedures

To ensure that competitors have the best possible experience when competing in the championship, it is helpful to be knowledgeable of Texas Golf Association (TGA) Policies and Procedures, Terms of Competition and Local Rules (Hard Card), as established by the association. Caddies: Caddies are NOT permitted during the championship.

Transportation: Players are encouraged to ride throughout the 2020 Texas Mid-Amateur Match Play. During the stroke play qualifying round, there will be a maximum of two carts per group. Players riding in shared carts will be required to wear a mask. Players may walk at any time and will not be required to wear a mask if socially distant. During the match play portion of the event, all players will have their own cart.

USGA Groove Condition of Competition (Condition NOT in Effect): The USGA Groove Rules effective January 1st, 2010 are NOT in effect for this competition.

Score Posting: At the conclusion of stroke play qualifying each player’s score will be automatically posted to the World Handicap System. Please do not enter your own scores from the competitive rounds, as this will result in a double post.

TGA Medical Cart Request Policy *NEW FOR 2020*: Spectator carts are prohibited. However, spectators in accordance of ADA compliance may request golf carts. Requests for golf carts must be supported by complete documentation, including the fully completed Cart Request Form and the required accompanying medical documentation specified in that form for all first time requests. Any medical cart request that is granted by the TGA will be good for that individual for the remainder of that calendar season. A request will not be deemed complete until all required information and documentation has been provided.
