Entry Fee: $175

Selection for Invitation (Mid-Amateurs): Of the eight (8) mid-amateurs chosen from each region, four (4) will be selected from the TGA Regional Player of the Year point standings, and four (4) will be selected from the TGA Statewide Player of the Year point standings.

The respective point-earning period for regional selection will include all regional events up to the completion of the current year’s Regional Amateur Championships to earn points towards the event. The respective point-earning period for statewide selection will include the TGA statewide and USGA Championship events found in the statewide performance points breakdown; all statewide players will have up to the completion of the current year Texas Mid-Amateur Championship and U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifying period to earn points toward the event. Once a player earns a spot via Regional Player of the Year Points, he utilizes a spot from that category and is no longer a factor in determining selections from the State Player of the Year points list.

Selection for Invitation (Senior Amateurs): Of the four (4) senior players chosen from each region, each will be selected based on the TGA Senior Statewide Player of the Year point standings.

The respective point-earning period for senior selection will include the TGA statewide and USGA Championship events found in the senior performance points breakdown; all senior players will have up to the completion of the current year’s Texas Senior Amateur Championship and the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship to earn points towards the event. The four (4) highest ranked players from each region (North/South), regardless of their overall position on the points list, will be selected.

Championship Information

Format/Field Size: Each team will consist of 12 players representing the North and South Regions. Foursome and Four-Ball matches will be played on Day 1(Saturday), with Singles Matches being played on Day 2 (Sunday).

Format: Outlined below is a summary of the forms of play and scoring method, which will be used to contest the 2020 Texas Shootout.

  • Foursome Matches: A match in which two players play against two other players, and each side plays one ball. The partners shall play alternately from the teeing grounds (Player 1 – Odd, Player 2 – Even # Holes) and alternating during the play of the hole. Penalty strokes do not affect the order of play.
  • Four-Ball Matches: A match in which two players play their better ball against the better ball of two other players.
  • Single Matches: A match in which one player plays against another.

Scoring: Each match is worth 3 points; 1 point for the front nine, 1 point for the back nine and 1 point for overall winner of the match. In case of a tie, each side will receive a half point. The first team to accumulate 36.5 points will win the Shootout. If, at the conclusion of the scheduled matches there is a tie for the overall team championship, the prior year’s winning team will retain the trophy.

What’s Included: The entry fee includes greens, cart and range fees for all championship rounds including the championship practice round. The entry fee also includes championship gifts, lunch during competitive rounds, and food/beverage.

Practice Round Information: Each player is allowed one (1) complimentary practice round on Friday, October 23 only. Practice rounds will be scheduled according to each team roster, with scheduled starting times for each team outlined in the Schedule of Events below.

Match Pairings / Starting Time Information: Match pairings and starting times will be determined on Friday evening for the Saturday (morning) Foursome Matches and Saturday (afternoon) Four-Ball Matches. Sunday Singles Match draw and starting times will be determined on Saturday evening.

Policies & Procedures

To ensure that competitors have the best possible experience when competing in the championship, it is helpful to be knowledgeable of Texas Golf Association (TGA) Policies and Procedures, Terms of Competition and Local Rules (Hard Card), as established by the association. Forfeit of Match(es): Should a player, side or team in a position where they cannot contest a match (whether circumstances are forseen or not), the opposing player or side will be awarded all three match points counting towards their team total. For information pertaining to Concessions, please refer to Rule 3.2b (Concessions) of the Rules of Golf.

Caddies: A player or side may use a caddie during the stipulated rounds of the Texas Shootout.

TGA Medical Cart Request Policy

Spectators carts are prohibited. However, spectators in accordance of ADA compliance may request golf carts. Requests for golf carts must be supported by complete documentation, including the fully-completed Cart Request Form and the required accompanying medical documentation specified in that form for all first-time requests. Any medical cart request that is granted by the TGA will be good for that individual for the remainder of that calendar season. A request will not be deemed complete until all required information and documentation has been provided.
