Cordillera Ranch to host Texas Mid-Amateur Championship

Cordillera Ranch in Boerne will play host to this year’s Texas Mid-Amateur Championship which will take place on September 27-29, 2013. This will be the first time that this prestigious state championship will be contested at Cordillera Ranch which hosted the Texas Shootout in 2007.

Winding through rugged, oak-covered terrain which feature limestone canyon walls and cascading water features, the Jack Nicklaus designed Cordillera Ranch provides a beautiful golf setting while preserving the native vegetation that makes Texas Hill Country so special. Bentgrass greens and zoysia fairways create playing surfaces that are second to none while numerous holes offer 25-mile views of the beautiful Guadalupe Valley. Securing its spot as the 5th ranked course in Texas by the Dallas Morning News in 2012, Cordillera Ranch will surely provide the perfect backdrop for the 2013 State Mid-Amateur Championship.

Eligibility requirements for the Texas Mid-Amateur are as follows: must be a male amateur golfer with a GHIN Handicap index of 8.4 or less; be 25 years of age or older by September 29, 2013; belong to a club that is a member in good standing of the Texas Golf Association; and a current resident of the state of Texas.

For those not otherwise exempt, 18 hole qualifying will be held during the months of July and August at various sites across the state. Detailed championship and qualifying site information can be found by clicking on the links at the top of the page.

The 2012 Texas Mid-Amateur Championship was held on the Blue Course at Dallas Athletic Club.  Arlington’s John Bearrie showed that consistent play pays off with a one shot victory over Mike Schrade of Frisco. Bearrie’s final round of three-under-par 69 propelled him from three shots back in the final round to claim the title. Bearrie added the Mid-Am title to his earlier victory in the State Four-Ball Championship to cap a great year which included being named the 2012 State Player of the Year.
