Oak Hills Country Club to host Mid-Amateur Match Play
Oak Hills Country Club will be the site of the 2013 Mid-Amateur Match Play from July 25-28. The Club has a tenured history with the TGA as it has been host to three Texas Amateur Championships, a Senior Amateur Championship, and a State Junior Championship.
Nestled within 200 acres of majestic oak trees and rolling hills, the A.W. Tillinghast designed Oak Hills Country Club provides ones of the most storied and respected golf courses in the country. The tree-lined fairways, bunker-protected greens, and contoured putting surfaces provide all of the trademark look and feel of a classic Tillinghast design. Having hosted 24 PGA Tour events, with a list of winners that reads like a who’s who of golf, Oak Hills Country Club should provide a spectacular venue for this year’s Mid-Amateur Match Play Championship.
The Mid-Amateur Match Play is scheduled for 18 holes of stroke play qualifying on Thursday. The low 32 players advance to match play. Round of 32 and 16 are played on Friday, Quarter and Semifinal matches played on Saturday, and the finals scheduled for Sunday morning. Entries are open to male amateur golfers with a GHIN handicap index of 5.4 or less, and who are 25 years of age or older as of the first round of the Championship July 25, 2013.
Last year’s Mid-Amateur Match Play Championship, played at Gleneagles Country Club, proved once again that you can never count the lower seeds out. Plano’s Lucas Boyd, who entered Match Play as the 26th seed, squared off against 5th seeded Brandon Scott, of Justin, in the final match. Boyd outlasted Scott in the end capturing the championship with a four and three victory.
