TGA to Unveil FUN GOLF in 2015

Golf is a game. Games are meant to be fun.

Golf is meant to be fun, too, but often it is anything but that.

For years, the Texas Golf Association has been synonymous with professionally run, elite amateur tournaments. The best players in the Southwest compete in our highly competitive championships, highlighted annually by the iconic Texas Amateur.

While intense and sometimes nerve-wracking, TGA championships are fun for the elite competitive golfer. But that group only represents a fraction of the Texans who also call themselves golfers. The much larger sect of golfers includes anyone and everyone who swings a club. Whether you prefer the social scene at TopGolf, the hilarity of Putt-Putt, the casual nine-hole round after work, the $5 Nassau on the weekend with your buddies or all of the above, golf to you is not about grinding out pars in a strict, by-the-Rules of Golf tournament. Golf to you is a game.

And games are meant to be what? Fun. That’s right. Games are meant to be fun.

Starting in 2015, the TGA is excited to launch FUN GOLF, an initiative meant to do exactly what it says. We want to make sure golf is fun for you, however you define it.

As part of the Fun Golf movement, we’ll offer a host of “Play Days” at desirable golf courses in which you and your friends can play golf the way you like to play golf. For those who want to compete, there will be Net and Gross Division tournaments, but that’s not the focus of Fun Golf.

The focus is – you’ve guessed it by now – having fun. We’ll create an inclusive environment for golfers of all types and skill levels. Popular concepts such as Tee it Forward and Play 9 will be welcomed and encouraged. Want to scoot up a set of tees? Go for it! Only have time (or interest) in playing nine holes? That’s great, too. There are no rules. You’re free to enjoy the great game of golf however you’d like.

Our first Fun Golf Play Day will be Feb. 16 at TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course, home of the PGA TOUR’s Valero Texas Open. Starting at 1 p.m., you’ll enjoy a casual, fun-filled day playing where the pros play – on one of the most scenic golf courses in Texas. You can sign up as a complete foursome, a twosome or as an individual. Click here for more information about the inaugural TGA Fun Golf Play Day.

Fun Golf doesn’t stop at Play Days, however. We’re planning a series of extravagant golf trips across the U.S. that will be available exclusively to TGA Members. This is your chance to get away from it all and tee it up with friends new and old at some of the best courses in the country.

We’re also creating a statewide Member-Member Tournament in which you’ll be able to team up with your favorite TGA Member for a unique two-person tournament.

More details on Fun Golf will be unveiled soon, so stay tuned.

There’s much more Fun Golf on the way.
