Palmer and Gatti take respective leads at North Senior

Irving, TX – Chuck Palmer takes a two shot lead with a one under par, 70 at the North Senior Amateur on the Cottonwood Valley Course at Four Seasons Resorts at Las Colinas. In the Super Senior division, Jerry Gatti’s 72 grabs the lead at the end of the first round.

Chuck Palmer recorded three birdies on the front side to help the reigning North Senior Amateur champion maintain that title. Palmer’s stellar play even included a double bogey on the par five 16th, which was playing as the second easiest hole on the day. Palmer, of Dallas, was the wire to wire winner at last year’s event when he outlasted Dave Davis by one.

The Senior division will begin play at 8:45am with leader Chuck Palmer going off the first tee at 12:03pm. Palmer will have plenty of chasers as 11 other competitors are within five shots of the lead.

Jerry Gatti, of Irving, started his day with nine straight pars before he recorded three bogeys to start the back nine. Gatti was five over par on the day until he got to the last two holes on the course. The 150 yard par three 17th was Gatti’s first birdie of the day which he promptly followed up with a birdie on the 18th winch only surrender just one other birdie to the Super Senior division.

Gatti, three over par, will take a four stroke lead into the last round of the North Senior Amateur. Gary Kirwan, seven over par, and James Burdine, eight over par, will play alongside Gatti at 8:36am off the first tee. The rest of Super Senior Division will tee off at 8:00am.
