Entries Open for 2017 Texas Amateur Championship

The Texas Golf Association is now accepting entries for the 2017 Texas Amateur. The 108th playing of the state’s oldest championship will be held June 15-18 at historic Lakewood Country Club in Dallas.

Conducted by the TGA since 1906, the Texas Amateur consistently attracts a preeminent field of top-ranked golfers looking to take possession of the most coveted amateur prize in Texas, the H.L. Edwards Memorial Trophy.

Opened in 1912, Lakewood is the second oldest club in Dallas and was designed by Scotland native Thomas Bendelow. This will be the third Texas Amateur and fifth overall major TGA championship contested at Lakewood. Previously the club was the site of the 1942 and 2000 Texas Amateur and the 1997 and 2008 Texas Mid-Amateur. Lakewood was scheduled to host the 2012 Texas Amateur in honor of the club’s 100th Anniversary, but a severe hailstorm before the start of Round One forced TGA officials to move the championship to the Honors Golf Club of Dallas.

To be eligible for the 2017 championship, applicants must be male amateur golfers with a GHIN Handicap Index of 6.4 or less; belong to a TGA Member Club; and are current residents of the state of Texas.

For those not otherwise exempt into the 144-player starting field, 18-hole sectional qualifying will take place at various sites across the state from April 10 through June 6.

The deadline to enter is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29.
