Watkins, Olson, Lee Win Winter Classic

Briefly: Dallas Athletic Club played host to the first event of the 2019 LJT schedule for the 11th straight year. The Club is celebrating its 100th year and will host this year’s Texas Amateur later this June. Eighty-four players teed it up on Dallas Athletic Club’s Blue course for the 2019 Winter Classic. Matthew Watkins, Maddi Olson, and Tyler Lee won a weather-shortened championship Sunday afternoon. FULL RESULTS

Division Wrap-up:
Heath’s Matthew Watkins won the Boys 15-18 division with a score of 4-under-par 68. Coming in second was Jackson Davenport of Austin, with a total of 2-under par-70. Trophy Club’s David Harrison and Bryce McCracken tied for 3rd with totals of even-par 72. Greg Seo of Carrollton rounded finshed in fifth place with a score of 1-over par 73.

In the Boys 14 & Under division, Tyler Lee of Dallas shot 3-over par 75 to claim 1st place. Alex Papayoanou and Ben Delarosa finished in a tie for second place. Both players shot 5-over-par 77.

Abilene’s Maddi Olson fired an even-par 72 to win the Girl’s 12-18 division. Coming in 2nd was Ellie Roth of Plano with a score of 1-over par 73. Dallas Athletic Club’s own Hailey Jones and Cedar Park’s Calynne Rosholt shot a round of 3-over 75 to tie for 3rd place.

Golf Course: Dallas Athletic Club is celebrating its 100th year and will be hosting the Texas Amateur later this year. Dallas Athletic Club’s Blue Course offers 18 holes of championship golf. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 1986, the Blue Course tips out at 6,922 yards and plays as a par 72. The course is known for its championship golf, as it has hosted the 1963 PGA Championship, 1992 and 2003 Texas Amateur.

Weather: Round one was cancelled due to cold weather and high winds. Round two was delayed due to frost and all players went off in a 12:00 pm shotgun start.
