Entry & Eligibility Information

Entries Open: Invitation Only

Entries Close: Invitation Only

Entry Fee: $200

Selection for Invitations (Mid-Amateurs): Of the eight (8) mid-amateurs chosen from each region, four (4) will be selected from the TGA Regional Player of the Year point standings, and four (4) will be selected from the TGA Statewide Player of the Year point standings.

The respective point-earning period for regional selection will include all regional events up to the completion of the current year’s Regional Amateur Championships to earn points towards the event. For complete information on Regional Player of the Year point-earning events, point breakdowns and current standings, please click here.

The respective point-earning period for statewide selection will include the TGA statewide and USGA Championship events found in the statewide performance points breakdown; all statewide players will have up to the completion of the current year Texas Mid-Amateur Championship and U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifying period to earn points toward the event.

Once a player earns a spot via Regional Player of the Year Points, he utilizes a spot from that category and is no longer a factor in determining selections from the State Player of the Year points list.

Selection for Invitations (Senior Amateurs): Of the four (4) senior players chosen from each region, each will be selected based on the TGA Senior Statewide Player of the Year point standings.

The respective point-earning period for senior selection will include the TGA statewide and USGA Championship events found in the senior performance points breakdown; all senior players will have up to the completion of the current year’s Texas Senior Amateur Championship and the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship to earn points towards the event.

Field Size: Each team will consist of 12 players representing the North and South regions of Texas. Of the 12 players, eight (8) will be Mid-Amateurs and four (4) will be Seniors.

Format: Foursome and Four-Ball Matches will be played on Day 1 and Singles Matches will be played on Day 2.

  • Foursome Match: A match in which two (2) partners compete as a side by playing one ball in alternating order on each hole.
  • Four-Ball Match: A match in which two (2) partners compete as a side by playing their own ball. The side’s score for the hole is the lower score of the two (2) partners on that hole.

Scoring: Each match is worth 3 points; 1 point for the front nine, 1 point for the back nine and 1 point for overall winner of the match. In case of a tie, each side will receive a half point. The first team to accumulate 36.5 points will win the Shootout. If, at the conclusion of the scheduled matches there is a tie for the overall team championship, the prior year’s winning team will retain the trophy.

Texas Shootout Hotel Link

Note: The city of Galveston has the annual Lone Star Motorcycle Rally that is set to take place the same weekend as the Texas Shootout, November 4-5. As a result, hotel rates are significantly increased, and availability may become limited as we get closer to the first weekend in November. We reccomend participants book their lodging sooner, rather than later.

Practice Round Information: Each player is allowed one (1) complimentary practice round on Friday, November 3 only. Practice rounds will be scheduled according to each team roster, with scheduled starting times for each team.

Registration Information: Registration will take place on Friday, November 3 prior to practice round starting times. If a player is not able to register that must communicate ahead of time with the TGA staff.
