Stanley and Moake Win 11th Women’s Texas Pinehurst

Briefly: Houston’s Caitlyn Stanley and Katy’s Meghan Moake carded rounds of 69-71 for a tournament total of 140 to win the 11th Women’s Texas Pinehurst by one stroke at Sterling Country Club. Stanley and Moake credit their teamwork for allowing them to win as a team in this event for third time.

Following Monday’s round, the team of Stanley and Moake led the field by two strokes after sinking a combined total of four birdies – three of which were made on the back nine. The duo began their final round with a perfect front nine with zero bogeys, making the turn at even-par. They were able to card two birdies on the back to keep them in sole possession of the lead. They were able to capitalize on the back nine two Par 5s, holes 14 and 17, recording birdie on both. The pair captured their victory with a final round score of 1 under 71.

Golf Course: The Sterling Course was constructed in the Fall of 2011. Designed by Jeff Blume, Sterling features elevation changes and rolling hills unique to the Houston area. Known for designing beautiful yet challenging golf courses, Blume did not disappoint with his design of Sterling. With five sets of tees to choose from, players of all skill levels are able to enjoy this great golf course.

Sterling Country Club at Houston National includes a double-sided driving range and practice facility. Weather: Monday’s round provided overcast skies with temperatures remaining in the mid to low 80s with consistent wind gusts around 12mph. The sun and wind really showed up for the final round of the Women’s Texas Pinehurst, where temperatures reached the mid-80s and wind gusts picking up in the early afternoon reaching around 15mph gusts.

In Contention: In the First Flight, the team of Patthawan Livingston and Tammy Trichell finished in first after one of the most exciting rounds of the tournament. On Monday, Livingston and Trichell started their round with two double bogeys but once they reached the par 5 9th hole, the birdies started to fall. The duo went on to card three more birdies on the back nine and additional back-to-back bridies to finish their round resulting in a total of six birdies on the day. In Tuesday’s final round, Livingston and Trichell kept a clean card recording 3 birdies and 0 bogies for a low round of the day 69.

In the second flight, Corpus Christi residents Kristie Robson and Suzanna Priest won by six strokes with rounds of 73-81 for a tournament total of 154. Robson and Priest were able to hold on to there five stroke first round lead with an 81 on a very windy final round.

In the Third Flight, the team of Patricia Walters of Cat Springs and Mary Long of Brenham finished in first place with scores of 78-89. The duo had a total of three birdies during Monday’s first round and put up a solo birdie on Tuesday against challenging wind conditions.

Player of the Year: Player of the Year points will be awarded to the top 5 teams in the Women’s Texas Pinehurst.
