Wes Artac shoots 1-under to maintain lead after 36 holes.

Wichita Falls, Texas — Wes Artac from Kingwood shot a 1-under-par 70 on Saturday to maintain his lead at the 86th West Texas Amateur at Wichita Falls Country Club. 

Artac, a freshman at Texas Tech and winner of the 2012 LJT State Junior Championship, posted 6-under 136 for the first two rounds of the 54-hole tournament. He leads the Open Division by two shots over defending champion Logan Philley from Robert Lee. Philley shot a 2-under 69 in the second round and is 4-under 138 overall. 
Conroe’s J.T. Taylor and Decatur’s Drew Jones are tied for third at 2-under, while Randy Lance of The Woodlands and Cory Churchman of Abilene are tied for fifth at even par heading into the last round. 
Clarke Kincaid of Trophy Club posted a 5-under-par 66. He made four birdies and an eagle, on the par-4 seventh hole. Kincaid’s 66 moved him into a tie for seventh with Seymour’s Matt Porter at 1-over heading into the final round. 
Forty-six players made the cut in the Open Division, which was set at 155 strokes.
In the Senior Division, Chuck Palmer of Dallas finished his second round with a 4-under-par 67, holing out a 20-yard wedge shot on the tenth hole for an eagle. Hollis Sullivan of Fort Worth gained the lead in the Senior Division with a second-round score of 68, moving to 2-under for the tournament. Lee Sandlin made an eagle on the par-4 eighteenth hole.
“I was 82 yards out with an uphill lie,” said Sandlin following his second round, “I hit my 60-degree wedge and the ball trickled in.” 
Twenty-three players made the cut in the Senior Division, which was set at 155 strokes. 
Wichita Falls’ Bill Holstead leads the Super Senior Division at 2-under-par 140, while Harold Speer of Mansfield is in second at 4-over and Waxahachie’s Michael Hastings is in third at 5-over. 
Eleven players made the cut in the Super Senior Division, which was set at 157 strokes.
