Palmer, Penn lead respective divisions at North Senior

LANTANA, Texas (April
22, 2014) –
The
first round of the 2014 North Senior Amateur Championship presented by UST
Mamiya is completed. Chuck Palmer of Dallas carded a stellar 3-under-par 69 in
the opening round. He leads the Senior division by one shot heading into
Wednesday’s final round at Lantana Golf Club. Gary Penn of Forth Worth shot an
even-par 72 to lead the Super Senior division by four shots over a group of
players.

Ideal
playing conditions lead to some low scores at the par-72 Lantana Golf Club.
Palmer carded three straight birdies starting on No. 5 before making his lone
bogey of the day at No. 8. He carded one more birdie on his back nine to card
his 3-under 69. He leads by one over Charlie Garza of McKinney. Garza’s
scorecard included three birdies, including two of his final three holes to
post a 2-under 70. Lelan Chiles and Hollis Sullivan sit in a tie for third
place, three shots back of Palmer.

Penn
started off his round with a double bogey and had a bogey three holes later,
but that didn’t stop him from fighting his way back to even-par on his front
nine. He carded two more birdies on his back nine en route to an even-par 72.
He leads the Super Senior division by four strokes over Craig Carlisle, John
Morris, Gary Kirwan, and Ronnie Green.

No’s. 1 and 10 tees.
